Defying AuntMoreMeredith feels abandoned by her mom and new step-dad when they drive off to the Grand Canyon, leaving her in the care of disagreeable Aunt Winona. To comfort Meredith while she’s away, Mom gives Meredith her precious amethyst ring. Defying Aunt Winona’s warning not to wear the ring, Meredith loses it in the nearby woods. Searching frantically for the heirloom amethyst leads Meredith to the astonishing Land of the Lost, where all lost things can be found. Meredith is joined on her quest by her faithful dog, Pido, and a frog guide named Judge. They soon find themselves caught up in a war between Ahriman, the Prince of Darkness, and Ormudz, the Prince of Light. Meredith encounters terrifying situations, including ambush by the Amazons (a lost tribe of warrior women) and kidnapping by the Acephali (a male mob who have lost their heads). At last, Meredith accomplishes her quest and finds the ring, only to discover there is one more task to perform. If she succeeds, she and Pido can go home again and the Land of the Lost will remain hers forever—to visit any time she wants.
